Dear Green Mountain Families,
It’s hard to believe we’re already heading into October! We’ve had a great start to the school year, and it has been wonderful to see our students settling into routines, reconnecting with friends, building relationships with staff, and getting down to the important work of learning.
Parent drop off & pick up
Thank you, families, for helping make our drop-off and parent pick-up systems smooth, efficient, and safe. We know that changing routines can take some getting used to, and we truly appreciate everyone’s patience and cooperation.
To make afternoon pick-up even easier, we have created family placards to place on your vehicle’s dashboard or visor. These allow staff to quickly identify your family and help us get students safely to the correct vehicle while keeping the line moving.
If you have not received a placard and would like one, please reach out to the school office. Thank you for continuing to help us keep our parking lot moving and, most importantly, keep our Grizzlies safe!
October is National Bullying Prevention Month
October is National Bullying Prevention Month, which gives us an opportunity to continue talking with students about kindness, inclusion, empathy, and how we treat one another.
It’s also a good time to talk about the difference between conflict and bullying, because they aren’t the same thing.
Conflict happens when students have a disagreement or problem with one another. It’s a normal part of growing up and learning how to navigate relationships. Students may disagree, become frustrated with each other, or even say or do something unkind. These situations are important, and they give us opportunities to help students learn how to communicate, problem-solve, repair relationships, and move forward.
Bullying involves repeated, intentional behavior meant to hurt, intimidate, or exclude someone and typically involves an imbalance of power.
Not every conflict or unkind interaction is bullying, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t important. We want our students to know that if something is bothering them, they should tell a trusted adult. Our job is to listen, help students work through problems, and make sure they feel safe and supported at school.
One of the greatest things we can teach our Grizzlies is how to be good humans; how to be kind, include others, solve problems, stand up for themselves and others, and ask for help when they need it.
We are excited about the learning, growth, and opportunities ahead this fall. Thank you for being such an important part of our Green Mountain community and for partnering with us to make this a successful year for our students.
Warmly,
Cyndi Garber
